WPM – Work Permit Management
In the SAP standard model of Work Clearance Management (WCM), the operational work clearance document is directly linked to the maintenance order and the corresponding work clearance application. WCM is used when the work clearance management itself is the focus and no other safety measures (radiation protection, fire protection, etc.) play a role.
One or more orders can reference a work clearance application, which in turn is assigned to one or more operational work clearance documents.
Work permit as an additional SAP object
In the extended work clearance management model, the work permit is added as an additional SAP object for work clearance management. This model is therefore referred to as working with work permits or the Work Permit Management model (WPM). The work permit as a work clearance document controls the processing between maintenance orders and their work clearance applications. This makes it possible to plan several parallel safety measures at the operation level of a maintenance order.
The maintenance order and work permit have an n:1 relationship and the work permit has an n:n relationship to the work clearance requirements and other safety-related requirements.
.Additional restrictions apply when using work permits; for example, a work clearance application can only be assigned to one work permit
Additional precautionary measures for particularly hazardous work
If special precautions must be taken to carry out certain, particularly high-risk work, these are mapped and tracked in SAP as work permits in addition to the actual release. The work permit is a written document and serves as an operational safety measure to protect against undesirable incidents.
On the one hand, it defines the activities to be carried out and, on the other, the measures to be observed in order to minimize the risk of the work.
